Write fantasy in poetry

Ooka Makoto (1931-2017) was one of my favourite Japanese poets. When I first read his poetry, I thought, “Oh, there’s such a world existing in the poetry”. He creates a world of fantasy that rises like a heat haze. One might ask whether fantasy is necessary for short poetry. However, when I was a child I would often see hallucinations. The border between reality and the surreal can be very blurred. That is why I want to express fantasy in my poetry.

大岡信は私のお気に入り日本人詩人のひとりです。彼の詩を初めて読んだとき「ああ、こんな世界もあるのか」と思いました。彼が描くのは陽炎のように立ち上るファンタジーの世界。短的な詩に空想が必要なのかという疑問もあるかもしれません。でも私も子どもの頃は幻想をよく見たものです。現実と幻想の境界線は本来とてもあいまいなものかもしれません。だから私も自分の詩作品の中で幻想を表現したいのです。
