Grandfather

memories crumbled
eyes wander on my face
still, love is there

When I was little, I was afraid of my grandfather because he was stubborn and short-tempered, but I still respected him as a business person.

When I became a teenager, he had dementia and spent the rest of his life in a nursing home. It was painful for my family to see how he was forgetting about us day by day.

When I was sixteen, he passed away. He’s gone alone. His memories were slowly fading out, and his life must have been quietly fading out.

Every time I’m working in my garden, I think about him who also loved gardening. Life is not so beautiful, but it’s not so cruel either. His ending was sad, but it doesn’t represent the whole of his life.
